MacBook Air 13-inch, Intel (A2179) repair

The A2179 was sold for only a few months before the M1 Air replaced it. It looks identical from outside, but it is an Intel machine and behaves differently on the bench.

Faults we repair on the A2179

• Runs hot with a noisy fan. The cooling on this model is modest; a clean and new thermal paste help.
• Cracked screen. The same thin display as the later Air, and just as easy to break.
• No power. T2 and power-circuit faults on the logic board.
• Liquid damage. Strip-down, clean and repair.
• Battery service. Now at the age where capacity drops quickly.

Good to know about this model

To tell it from the M1 Air without turning it over: the Intel model has a fan you can hear under load, and About This Mac shows "Processor" where the M1 shows "Chip".
