Laptop screen black, cracked or flickering
Cracks, coloured lines, a flicker, or a screen that stays black while the laptop is clearly running. Most screen faults are fixed the same day once the part is in.
Likely causes
- Broken panel. Cracks, ink-like blotches or lines mean the panel itself needs replacing.
- Failed backlight. A very faint picture you can only see with a torch.
- Screen cable. A picture that changes as you move the lid.
- Graphics fault. Lines or a black screen on an external monitor as well.
Try this first
- Connect a TV or monitor. A good picture there means the laptop is fine and only the screen needs work.
- Move the lid slowly: if the picture comes and goes, the cable is the likely cause.
- If there is liquid behind the glass, stop pressing on it.
What it costs
A bench diagnostic is £54, deducted from the repair if you go ahead, and you get the price before any work starts. Laptop screen replacement starts from £135 + VAT, fitted. Send an enquiry, or see the price list.
