MacBook battery replacement

A MacBook battery is good for roughly a thousand charge cycles. After that it holds less, drains faster and can start to swell.

What you need to know

• When to replace it. macOS shows "Service Recommended" under System Settings, Battery, or the Mac dies at 20 or 30%.
• A swollen battery. The trackpad stops clicking, or the case no longer closes flat. Stop using and charging the Mac.
• What we fit. A new battery, with the charge circuit checked so the fault does not return.
• Your data. Not affected by a battery replacement.
