Dell PowerEdge repair

PowerEdge servers are built to keep running with a failed part. That is their strength, and it is why a fault often goes unnoticed until a second part fails.

  • Models R730, R740, R750, R760, T440, T640 and similar
  • Sold 2014 onwards
  • Where to find the number On the front bezel, and on the pull-out tab that also carries the Service Tag.

Pick your generation for the faults specific to it:

Faults we repair on the PowerEdge

  • Failed power supply. An amber light on one of the two supplies. We replace it before the other one goes.
  • Failed drive or degraded RAID. Drive replaced and the array rebuilt on the PERC controller, with the data protected first.
  • Memory errors. A module reported on the front panel or in the logs is tested and replaced.
  • Will not start. Stops before the operating system loads: board, processor or memory.
  • iDRAC not responding. The remote-management controller repaired or its firmware restored.
  • Fan failure and overheating. Fans replaced, airflow cleared.

Good to know about this model

An amber light on the front means the server has logged a fault. The front panel or iDRAC names the part: tell us that message and we can usually bring the right spare first time.
