PS5, PS4 or Xbox shows "no signal"
The console switches on, but the TV says "no signal" or shows a black screen. On PlayStation and Xbox consoles the HDMI port is by far the most likely cause.
Likely causes
- Damaged HDMI port. Bent or pushed-in pins after a knock to the cable.
- HDMI chip. The part behind the port that drives the picture.
- Cable or TV input. Worth ruling out first.
- Resolution setting. The console is sending a picture the TV cannot show.
Try this first
- Try another HDMI cable and another HDMI socket on the TV.
- Look into the console port with a torch: bent pins are easy to see.
- Start the console in Safe Mode and choose the option to change the resolution.
What it costs
A bench diagnostic is £54, deducted from the repair if you go ahead, and you get the price before any work starts. HDMI port replacement typically starts from £95 + VAT, depending on the model. See console repairs. Send an enquiry, or see the price list.
