MacBook will not turn on
No chime, no light, no picture. On a MacBook the cause is very often small and on the logic board, and Apple will usually offer a whole new board when a single part has failed.
Likely causes
- Charging circuit fault. No power getting past the USB-C or MagSafe port.
- Liquid damage. Sometimes from a spill weeks earlier.
- Battery. Completely flat or failed.
- Screen. The Mac is on but the display is dark.
Try this first
- Hold the power button for ten seconds, release, and press once more.
- Leave it on a known-good charger for 30 minutes, trying the other port if there is one.
- Listen for fans and check whether the keyboard lights: either means the Mac is running.
What it costs
A bench diagnostic is £54, deducted from the repair if you go ahead, and you get the price before any work starts. We repair the board at component level where we can, which costs much less than a replacement board. Send an enquiry, or see the price list.
