Data recovery from an SSD that is not detected
An SSD usually fails without warning: one day the computer simply does not see it. There is no clicking to listen for and often no sign at all.
What you need to know
- Firmware faults. The drive is alive but locked in a fault state. Often recoverable with the right tools.
- Failed controller or power parts. Board-level work on the drive itself.
- Soldered storage. In recent Macs and thin laptops the SSD is part of the motherboard, so the board has to be repaired to reach the data.
- Encryption. BitLocker and FileVault keys or passwords will be needed.
Price and booking
Data recovery starts from £79 + VAT for straightforward cases; physical damage costs more and is quoted after diagnosis. Do not keep powering a failing SSD on and off. See also data recovery. Send an enquiry, or see the price list.
